Planting - Monitoring

Planting - Monitoring

There are two levels of monitoring undertaken in the Trees4Trees™ plantations, general monitoring and detailed monitoring. General monitoring involves interviews with the farmer and field checks. We implement this type for all  trees in all land categories.

The second type, detailed monitoring, is based on the measurement of the trees in a  “Permanent Sample Plot” (PSP). We design the PSP with 2.5% sampling intensity and apply the result to the entire tree population. To establish the total volume and annual growth of wood in the plantations the Trees4Trees™ team utilizes data from the PSP’s. Ongoing monitoring of the plantation species composition, wood volume and growth rate are critical to assist the Trees4Trees™ team with establishing sustainable annual allowable cutting rates for the forest estate and for the planning of harvest operations and the marketing of the resource for timber sale.
